First Impressions: Too Faced ‘Better Than Sex’ Mascara!

Helloooooo lovely peoples!

For the longest time, I’ve had a weight on my conscience. I’m not a vegan, I’m not a vegetarian, although I have been trying to cut down on the amount of meat I eat (but that’s a story for another time). What’s been sitting funny with me though, is the idea of animal testing. Like, there’s no need for it! I can’t stand the thought of sweet, defenceless little bunnies having lipstick smeared on them, so that they can “make sure” I’ll be okay. No way! So, I recently made the decision to veer towards using only cruelty-free make up products. Mwahaha! I thought. I am SUCH  good person, check me out.

Then, I realised how difficult that actually will be.

The make up world is FULL of non-cruelty-free products, and it’s really difficult to discern what is and what isn’t. Goodbye, my beloved Rimmel concealer. Au revoir, my delicious Benefit RollerLash.

I’ve been doing my homework, however, and discovered that TooFaced is actually cruelty free- who’d of thunk it, eh? And having heard rave reviews about their Better Than Sex mascara, I thought I’d give it a whirl.

I made an order with Selfridges, and it arrived this morning (Weds 30th). Can we just take a moment to agree that the Selfridges packaging is gorgeous? Yellow polka dots?! STUNNING!

Firstly, the packaging. This mascara is fairly weighty- when I opened it up, the lid and brush actually felt quite heavy in my hand! I think that’s a good thing though, as it means you’ll have a good grip, and be less likely to drop the wand half-way through application, causing a big smudge of mascara goop on your cheek (I have done that FAR too often…).

I like the pink tube, I think it’s pretty. I am not looking forward to the day when it becomes super grubby after chilling in my make up bag for a while!

APPLICATION was easy- the wand has an hourglass shape, which I thought was unusual, but actually makes for super easy, even coat-age. After one coat, I found my lashes to be quite well defined, a little longer, and much darker. I’ll show you a “one see done, the other not-so-much” shot below.

You see there’s flutteriness, and wispiness!

Then, with both eyes done.

This was after about two coats. I’m pretty happy with the results!!

WHAT I LOVED was that, compared to my beloved RollerLash, it didn’t make my eyelashes clumpy. THAT was a huge relief, as Benefit’s mascara always had a habit of leaving me looking like I only had three, super thick lashes. This is much better in that respect.

I think it’ll take some time to transition from RollerLash to Better Than Sex, just because I’m so used to the former? But I really like this mascara- good first impression, and happy it’s cruelty free!!

I also got a cheeky wee Charlotte Tilbury product in the delivery, so check back soon for a review on that too… 😉

What mascara do you guys love? Are there any other cruelty-free holy grail products you can think of? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Love and hugs!

    isn’t it fab ambie ❤

  2. Will have to check this out! I’ve used the same Maybelline mascara in the pink tube since I was 16…and that’s a long time ago. My eyes are super sensitive, so I have to be really careful about changing eye shadows, etc. So, I find it easier to just stay with the same old stuff…and that’s really boring. But better than going around with my eyes puffed shut and red!

definitely do! I have been using it now for a few weeks and I’m LOVING it- it keeps making my lashes look consistently fabulous! As someone who has had problems with changing mascaras in the past, I can say this one has worked out well for me 😀
